A Southern 4th of July

We are all about traditions here in the South and Independence day is no exception. Families get together to celebrate our country's freedom in a variety of ways. One thing you can be certain of is food, music, and fireworks.

Why do we celebrate independence on July 4th? Because July 4, 1776 was when Congress approved our Declaration of Independence. We have been celebrating our independence since.

Southern Living has a list of the best fireworks around the south that includes Nashville, TN, Birmingham, AL, and Savannah, GA. See the full list and details here.

Celebrating with a BBQ is longtime southern tradition whether it be at home with just family or at the park or venue that is hosting the fireworks display. Every family has their traditional offerings that are long standing like hamburgers, hot dogs, brisket, watermelon, and potato salad among many other choices. See some great recipes here.

If you are hosting a BBQ and family get together, you know that southern pride and tradition demands that your décor be on point. From the decorations displayed around the home to your table settings. As you well know mason jars are the drinkware of the south and you can stock up here with some great patriotic or southern themed glasses. You can find some great DIY ideas here or buy some truly unique décor and tablescape items from a handmade artisan on Goimagine and support a caring economy.

Let's not forget that you want to look the part yourself. There are many options out there from coordinating a red shirt with blue jeans and a white belt to custom t-shirts with a witty phrase and red, white, and blue jewelry to round out the look.

However you celebrate, be safe and have fun. We would love to hear some of your traditions so comment below with your favorites.
